OCEANA Debut Album Love Supply to be Released on Ultra Records this Summer

About Oceana:
Oceana is a modern confident young woman who knows what she wants. She actually knew what she wanted from an early age. “I always had an extraordinary lifestyle, was always independent and boxed my own way through life. I didn’t need pocket money - I learned from early on, how to manage on my own.” Oceana never felt homesick, but always felt the need to travel and sees herself as a “citizen of the world.” A real cosmopolitan, she has lived in Paris, Hamburg, London, New York, Los Angeles and spent a fair amount of time in Martinique, exploring her Caribbean roots. She earned her living through gigs and was constantly improving her knowledge of song and dance. Aside from music, she is particularly interested in fashion and photography.

Growing up as the child of a working musician, Oceana got the chance to meet some legendary entertainers at a young age, including James Brown's famous saxophonist Maceo Parker. Last year, Maceo finally made her start thinking about her own career as a vocalist. “He gave me the deciding push! Over the years I had kept writing my own material, but after a concert, Maceo said to me, “You’re ready now; do your own thing!” Luckily this sentence took seed and she did not forget it. She started working in London on several songs and traveled to New York to record her debut album Love Supply. Suddenly things started to move quickly, the team worked well and they produced a fantastic album in a short period of time, which mixes the finest soul-pop, funk, R’n’B and reggae to make the rounded, international-sounding, top-quality album.

Carolina Chocolate Drops Release Album "Genuine Negro Jig"

About The Drops:

“Tradition is a guide, not a jailer. We play in an older tradition but we are modern musicians.”

—Justin Robinson

In the summer and fall of 2005, three young black musicians, Dom Flemons, Rhiannon Giddens, and Justin Robinson, made the commitment to travel to Mebane, N.C., every Thursday night to sit in the home of old-time fiddler Joe Thompson for a musical jam session. Joe was in his 80’s, a black fiddler with a short bowing style that he inherited from generations of family musicians. He had learned to play a wide ranging set of tunes sitting on the back porch with other players after a day of field work. Now he was passing those same lessons on to a new generation.

When the three students decided to form a band, they didn’t have big plans. It was mostly a tribute to Joe, a chance to bring his music back out of the house again and into dance halls and public places. They called themselves The Chocolate Drops as a tip of the hat to the Tennessee Chocolate Drops, three black brothers Howard, Martin and Bogan Armstrong, who lit up the music scene in the 1930’s. Honing and experimenting with Joe’s repertoire, the band often coaxed their teacher out of the house to join them on stage. Joe’s charisma and charm regularly stole the show.

Being young and living in the 21st century, the Chocolate Drops first hooked up through a yahoo group, Black Banjo: Then and Now (BBT&N) hosted by Tom Thomas and Sule Greg Wilson. Dom was still living in Arizona, but in April 2005, when the web-chat spawned the Black Banjo Gathering in Asheville, N.C., he flew east and ended moving to the Piedmont where he could get at the music first hand. Joe Thompson’s house was the proof in the pudding.

The Chocolate Drops started playing around, rolling out the tunes wherever anyone would listen. From town squares to farmer’s markets, they perfected their playing and began to win an avid following of foot-tapping, sing-along, audiences. In 2006, they picked up a spot at the locally-based Shakori Hills Festival where they lit such a fire on the dance tent floor that Tim and Denise Duffy of the Music Maker Relief Foundation came over to see what was going on. Rhiannon remembers being skeptical when this local Hillsborough, N.C., guy with a goofy smile and a roster of old blues musicians offered to take them on and promote their music. The band was still figuring out who they were and Duffy was offering to house them with people like Algie Mae Hinton, musicians who were not pretenders to a tradition, but the real thing.

The connection turned out to be a great match. While the young “Drops” were upstarts in a stable of deep tradition, they were also the link between past and future. They began to expand their repertoire, taking advantage of what Dom calls “the novelty factor” to get folks in the door and then teaching and thrilling them with traditional music that was evolving as they performed. They teased audiences with history on tunes like “Dixie”, the apparent Southern anthem that musicologists suggest was stolen by the black-face minstrel Dan Emmert from the Snowden family, black Ohio musicians who missed their warm, sunny home. The “Drops” gave new energy to old tunes like John Henry and Sally Ann, adding blues songs, Gaelic acappella, and flat-footing to the show.

The band moved up through the festival circuit, from the Mt. Airy Fiddler’s Convention to MerleFest. They shared the stage with their new fan, Taj Mahal, and traveled to Europe. In 2007 they appeared in Denzel Washington’s film, The Great Debators and joined Garrison Keiler on Prairie Home Companion. In 2008, they received an invitation to play on the Grand Ole Opry. “The Drops were the first black string band to play the Opry,” Duffy notes. “The Opry has a huge black following but you don’t see that on stage.” Opry host, Marty Stewart, pronounced the performance a healing moment for the Opry.

Off-stage, the connection to Music Maker Relief Foundation meant a place to record. In 2007, Music Maker issued Dona Got a Ramblin’ Mind and, in 2009, Carolina Chocolate Drops & Joe Thompson. In 2010, with the release of their Nonesuch recording, Genuine Negro Jig, the group confirms its place in the music pantheon. With its tongue in cheek, multiple-meaning title, the album ranges boldly from Joe Thompson’s Cindy Gal to Tom Waits’ Trampled Rose and Rhiannon’s acoustic hip hop version of R&B artist Blu Cantrell’s Hit ‘Em Up Style.

Rolling Stone Magazine described the Carolina Chocolate Drops’ style as “dirt-floor-dance electricity”. If you ask the band, that is what matters most. Yes, banjos and black string musicians first got here on slave ships, but now this is everyone’s music. It’s OK to mix it up and go where the spirit moves.

TRUTH & SALVAGE CO. TO RELEASE DEBUT ALBUM MAY 25

New York, NY -- TRUTH & SALVAGE CO. will release their debut studio album on May 25 through Silver Arrow/Megaforce Records. Produced by Chris Robinson, the self-titled 12 song collection is centered on the band's soaring four-part harmonies and Americana rock ethos. TRUTH & SALVAGE CO. developed much of the material while opening for The Black Crowes over the course of 2009. With four lead singer/songwriters each contributing to the effort, the tracks range from the clever lyrical style of "Old Piano," the epic bohemian rocker "Jump The Ship," to the band's staple set closer "Pure Mountain Angel."

The six musicians of TRUTH & SALVAGE CO. (vocalist/guitarist Scott Kinnebrew, vocalist/guitarist Tim Jones, vocalist/drummer Bill "Smitty" Smith, vocalist/keyboardist Walker Young, bassist Joe Edel and keyboardist Adam Grace) hail from diverse Southern and Midwestern backgrounds. Prior to their conception, the veteran members had been involved in well-regarded regional bands like Scrappy Hamilton and Old Pike, while performing with acts such as The Moldy Peaches, Ben Folds Five, Jack Johnson, and The Squirrel Nut Zippers, as well as members of My Morning Jacket and Rogue Wave.

All six musicians migrated to Los Angeles, meeting at Hollywood’s famous Hotel Café where singer Tim Jones served as the venue’s Sunday night talent booker. First performing together during casual late-night jam sessions, they quickly discovered their chemistry was undeniable. It was on that very stage that TRUTH & SALVAGE CO. was born.

TRUTH & SALVAGE CO. return to Hotel Cafe every Friday night for a four week residency that runs through March 12. In April they'll join The Avett Brothers. Plans for an extended tour around the album's release will be announced shortly.

Daytrotter recently debuted 4 songs available for free:

http://www.daytrotter.com/dt/truth-and- ... 82166.html

TRUTH & SALVAGE CO. dates:

March 5 | Hotel Cafe | Los Angeles, CA
March 12 | Hotel Cafe | Los Angeles, CA
April 17 | The Fox Theatre | Oakland, CA*
April 18 | Grand Sierra Theatre | Reno, NV*
April 20 | Boulder Theater | Boulder, CO*
April 21 | Boulder Theater | Boulder, CO*
April 23 | Rialto Theater | Tucson, AZ*
April 24 | Mesa Arts Center | Mesa, AZ*
April 25 | Stage Coach | Indio, CA
April 27 | Crest Theater | Sacramento, CA*
April 29 | House Of Blues | San Diego, CA*

*Opening for The Avett Brothers

http://www.truthandsalvageco.com

We’re just trying to keep our feet on the ground and remember why we started doing this in the first place.”

HABITS, produced by the band’s friend, singer/guitarist Tim Pagnotta, is a blast of timeless rock energy and spirit that wouldn’t sound out of place at any point from ’60s garage-rock to 2010 dance rock and beyond. “Music is a sacred act of communion for me, offering hope and love,” says Tyler. “That’s the heart of this band.” Adds Chris, “We just want to share that feeling we got from the bands that inspired us, and then we want to pass the torch.” For more information go to www.NeonTreens.com

After the recent release of 55 CADILLAC - a compilation of improvised solo piano compositions - CLOSE CALLS WITH BRICK WALLS and MOTHER OF MANKIND deliver the slamming, inspirational music for which Andrew W.K. is loved, coupled with new sounds and feelings rarely associated with his traditional work.

Close Calls With Brick Walls was recorded in multiple sessions throughout 2004 and 2005, using the full Andrew W.K. touring band for the first time. With a full instrumental band, the new album includes exciting new performances, styles, and rhythms. The lyrics are more complex although still very playful, and Andrew’s voice has grown into something much more distinct and expressive.

The roots of the album and the changes it signals lie in the story behind the unorthodox path Andrew took to fame and, specifically, the dramatic contrast between his early years as part of a free-spirited music scene in his hometown of Ann Arbor, Michigan and the transformation in attitude and image and personality that came about after he had assumed the role of Andrew W.K..

The trademark white t-shirt and jeans he wore in public was also adopted in order to help create an easily-identifiable image. And it worked. Audiences embraced Andrew W.K. as the long-haired, straight-talking, everyman rock icon who oozed positivity and made his fans feel that not only was it OK to be different but that it was OK to be yourself and not feel embarrassed about being awkward or unusual.

In one sense, Close Calls With Brick Walls is the sound of Andrew W.K. reclaiming and embracing aspects of his personality and his music that were obscured and closed off to him by the process of generating an image and a persona that could be sold to the public. The cover of the album even suggests as much. It features an image of Andrew W.K. standing, arms crossed and dressed in his trademark white tee-shirt, in front of a brick wall that is painted a shade of indigo so dark it appears to be swallowing all the light around it. There’s a gleam in his eye and a broad smile pasted across his face. But, oddly, he doesn’t look as if he’s having fun. The entire package seems to pose a conundrum.

Since the initial 2006 release of Close Calls, Andrew’s career has certainly moved in all sorts of surprising directions. He did a lot of things that were unexpected, yet offered little in the way of explanation for behavior that, on one level, seemed quite natural and, on another, entirely unnatural. Instead of promoting and touring the album in the U.S. , he went on a lecture tour as an inspirational new-age motivational speaker. He cut his hair. It grew back. He stepped out of his dirty whites and into a tailored suit to model for gentleman’s magazines like Esquire and V-Man, he produced a Grammy-nominated album for reggae artist, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, opened a night club in New York (Santos Party House) and became the host of the Cartoon Network game show, Destroy Build Destroy. He recorded a solo piano album and went on tour with a classical string quartet.

And so the story comes full circle. The world catches up with Andrew W.K. and, in return, he releases Close Calls With Brick Walls, the album that the world was almost denied from hearing by forces beyond his control. But rather than crash into walls that barred his way to make that happen, he broke them down brick by brick and then stepped on through to the other side. And where he goes from here… who knows?

For more information visit http://www.andrewwk.com/.
