Teagan Ward ~ Two Decades and a Dream

Line

Written by Joe Koch

This 20-year-old coffee shop diva has created a package that stands apart. With singer-songwriters you have some that can write, some that can sing and some that should just play guitar. Usually their egos always get in the way, and never for the better. Teagan, on the other hand, has all the talents to keep her ahead of the game. She opens her heart to the world, telling her stories of triumph and loss, with a voice that knows just when to tug at your heart strings. I often find it to be stronger when it's just her vocals being backed by a gentle guitar. The perfect example is the last track on Two Decades and a Dream, "Two Hills," as she sings "I've been in happier places than this, Don't you agree? Didn't we find? Life is only as hard as the hills that we climb." It just cuts through you. Mike Deiure did an excellent job producing this record. He blended Patrick Laird's cello with Teagan's voice, making them almost become a single instrument on "Fade Away," leading you to believe that "In time we'll work it out, I promise you baby."
Teagan has a way of conveying her message that you want to believe when she tells us about angels and sings, "If we wait patiently and stare, then maybe we might see them standing there."
She can also mix it up with a twist of Alt/Country. "Anywhere But Here" is the anthem for anyone working the daily grind but wanting something more. It encourages people to follow their dreams. This album is definitely collection worthy.

Rating: 4 of 5 stars.
