The diva returns with another jubilant
collection of well-mastered songs. Again, she turned to
Billy Mann for his songwriting and producing expertise.
But don't discredit Pink, as she has her name tattooed all
over this recording as executive producer, songwriter and
in a host of other roles.
She opens with the track "So what," which
is currently consuming most top 40 airwaves. It's your typical
girl-power song — I'm gonna have even more fun without a
man. There are many scorned women out there, so the theme
works every time. The second song reveals a more vulnerable
side, as she sings "I don't wanna be the girl that has to
feel the silence. A quiet scares me, cuz it screams the
truth." She talks a good game, but I think her scars run
deep.
Pink is one of my favorite female vocalists.
You don't need to dig too deep to hear her voice excel to
levels that most long to achieve. In the middle of track
four, "One Foot Wrong," she grinds it out. The two highlights
on this album are the "Crystal Ball" and "Glitter in the
Air." When you take away all the background noise and leave
Pink with just a guitar or piano, you hear the raw talent
she possesses.
Maybe some day she will answer us with an all-acoustic
album. This is not her best, but Funhouse will suffice for
the avid Pink fan.
