Ladies and gentlemen: In this corner we have Gallows standing five strong and still undefeated. They will leave you bloody, beaten and completely satisfied. In the other corner we have all other punk-rock wannabes who try hard but can’t measure up to the fury and power.
If you loved Gallows’ album Orchestra of Wolves, you will be proud to add this to your collection. If you’ve experienced them live, this album will probably be a mainstay in your player for the rest of the year.
“London is the Reason” is a perfect anthem. It makes you angry and fills you with rage, but you can share it with your friends. It unites people with a single-minded ferocity.
“Death Voices” has the raucous fuck-you attitude of early punk. The lyric, “So kill yourself, ‘cuz there ain’t nothing else,” resonates with those who are lonely and angry. They can relate to this type of lyric and feel connected again. “The Vulture (Acts I & II)”showcases just what the band is capable of; they can be beautiful and mellow when they need to be.
Of course, vocalist Frank Carter sings about drowning horses and taking the girls, but he makes it sound so pretty. That is until the end of the song when he unleashes his inner King Diamond, leaving us exhausted with the brutality of it all. I love “Queensberry Rules,” The Queensberry Rules are a set of boxing rules. The rules are all about respecting your opponent and having a fair fight. Perhaps the title and the song are a call for a lost way of life. Just love the sentiment and the honest metal of this song. My favorite song is “Misery.” Once again Baxter sounds desperate. I feel that he and his mates are miserable — and they love it. The song is filled with brutal guitar riffs and a pounding drum. Wow this is what music used to be…good.
Anarchy hasn’t sounded this good since the Sex Pistols. So raise your glass and enjoy this masterpiece. Then break you glass over your neighbor’s head and piss on his lawn. Yeah! The Gallows made me do it!
