This is one young singer with some real talent. She can sing, she writes great songs, and she can perform the hell out of them. She definitely appears to have the sweet innocent rocker thing down. But don’t think Alana Grace is that easy to identify.
Would a pop princess be an avid Harley rider? Still not convinced? Listen to the subject matter of her new album. It’s full of emotion and shows a somewhat damaged side.
The one song that immediately stands out on With One Word is “Glass House,” which is perfectly produced. It gives you the dynamics of the emotion with changes of speed; the timbre of her voice builds and crests. It’s more pop than rock, but powerful. Following this song is “The Other Side,” which has the potential to be a huge hit. It really is a showcase for her voice and is filled with great dynamics. The chorus is very catchy and piercing. It reminds me of a poppy Cranberries-type song.
In “Paranoid,” she channels Lita Ford and Alice Copper. It rocks, with a real performance feel to it. You feel the song come to life. Another standout song is “Goodbye Lost Innocence.” It sounds like a lost Madonna song. It has a lot of cool sounds going on all at once. You hear a cool beat and then a tight guitar riff, but the whole time you feel like you’re in outer space.
Alana is at the beginning of what should prove to be a very long career. She has all the tools to make it and with her new album she shows us she can do it. It was a surprisingly polished album and should make her a star.
